17/4/2008Introducing the R.T.R.A., The registered & Riddrie Tenant & Resident Association
At one time, well within living memory, Riddrie was a much-coveted area in which to live. With Hogganfield loch and a golf course just up the road and Alexandra Park and another golf course just down the road, a wide tree lined boulevard running through, lovely houses and well cared for gardens, churches, schools and shops, Riddrie was a very des.res.ndeed.
Riddrie is still a des.res., with the additional advantages of easy access to the motorway.
But we suffer from the modern blight of litter, fly tipping ,dog fouling, graffitti and general vandalism.
We set up our committe in 2002 with high ideals, to speak for Riddrie, to be an organisation with the authority to approach other organisations on behalf of the people of Riddrie, and to have our requests/ideas/comments acknowledged.
We distributed questionnaires surveying local concerns
Environmental issues were predominant, followed closely by policing and crime levels, local facilities and community events coming a close third.
We got in touch with our local MP and Councillor, contacted other appropriate authorities, GHA-Keystone, Police, Land and Environment Services and various agencies we hoped would be of help. We have since invited them and our members to public meetings, where representatives of each group are invited to speak out! Our meetings have been well supported and people have found therein a platform to raise issues important to them and to our community.
Here's hoping that many will find riddrie.eveningtmes.co.uk our web site ,courtesy of the Evening Times, as another platform to air their views and share ideas, and to encourage friends and family to join in!!
