Edit growing up in ruchazie in the 60s

I was 10 when i came to live in Ruchazie from the Calton, we thought we were toffs moving to a new house with a balcony and an inside toilet we came from a room/kitchen ,my sister and i shared a bedroom without my brothers, [2]I left Ruchazie 42yrs ago to come to Toronto but i get home every couple yrs for my Glasga fix and always drive up to Ruchzie the changes are not for the better in the 60s it was a great place to grow up we lived on Dunnotter st and at the back of our house we had an Orchard my brothers would climb the wall and bring bag bags of Apples that my Ma would make pies from , Oh the good old days,,,

It is nice that you get back home, I suppose you find it sad to see all the changes and as you said not for the better. My mother came from Parkhouse Lane in Dennistoun where the Wellpark Brewery is now they lived in a room and kitchen with 7 kids. They got their house in Liberton Street in 1928 and were there up until my uncle died in the 1960s. They thought they were posh then, but they were content with life. Some of my relatives went to Toronto.

I HAD RELEATIVES IN RUCHAZIE, SMITHS, ALEXIS, LILLIAN , CAROLINE, THEIR FATHER WAS TONY SMITH, THEIR MOTHER INA, IAM CATHERINE OFFORD FROM KINGSTON,, ONTARIO CANADA, MY FATHER AND TONY SMITH WERE BROTHERS, I WANTED TO LET MY COUSINS KNOW THAT IM RECOVERING FROM BREAST CANCER, IVE CHEMO RADIOTION AND A MASTECTOMY, I DONT KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE IN THE FAMILY HAS GONE THROUGH THIS, I JUST THOUGHT I WOUOLD LET THEM KNOW. I LOST MY HUSBAND 3 YEASRS AGO TO CANCER.

Have your say:
